ANGEL Services

ANGEL provides professional library services to member schools, allowing them to better serve their students.  The availability of such services is also part of some accreditation programs, such as SACS.  In the past, selection and maintenance of SDA school libraries have traditionally fallen on the shoulders of the teachers, who most often have neither time nor expertise for the task.  ANGEL is a service created to lift part of the burden by providing excellent library materials, including books, videos, CD's, and audio books which help support the curriculum.

Consultation

After a consultation with the school, reference material and titles are ordered to create a well-rounded library collection.

Title Selection

Teachers may request specific titles or subject areas to meet curriculum needs, or they may rely on the ANGEL librarian to select titles for them. Special requests can be in addition to the recommendation lists, or they can be in replace of the recommendation lists.

Purchasing

ANGEL orders books in quantity, with the volume discounts passed along to the schools. We cannot always guarantee that every book request will be fulfilled. This depends on availability. However we will do our best!

Processing

ANGEL handles all book processing so that the materials are ready to be placed on the shelf once they arrive at the school.  Processing includes cataloging the book by a professional librarian, labeling the book with the school code, and printing and applying spine and barcode labels.

Backlog Processing

Backlog books are any books that you bring to ANGEL to catalog. These are not the new books purchased each year using your regular ANGEL funds.

On June 1, 2011 we will begin charging $3.00 per book to catalog and process backlog books.

Shipping charges to and from the school will be the school’s financial responsibility. Dropping off and picking up your books will save you from paying those shipping charges.

However, if you decide to go automated using the Automated Circulation System from Surpass Software between June 1, 2010 and May 31, 2011 we will offer to process your backlog at the current $1.00 per book rate. Beginning June 1, 2011 backlog books will be processed at $3.00 per book regardless of going automated.

That means that if you take the steps to get automated by May 31, 2011 (you've entered into a contract with Surpass Software to use their Automated Circulation System) we will hold the $1.00 per book rate until we are finished cataloging your backlog books.

Returns

You may feel that a book provided by ANGEL is inappropriate to your collection, or you may already have a copy of that book.  Your budget will be credited with the value of that book.  There are some restrictions on returns.  If you have requested a book, which means we have special ordered that book for you, it may not be returned for credit. Also, no credit can be given on books purchased in the previous fiscal year.

Online Catalog Access

Books for all member schools are available for searching in ANGEL's Online Catalog.  The catalog is searchable via the Internet from within the school, home, or community.  If a member school has their own automation system, ANGEL will provide MARC records for all materials cataloged to be imported into the school's own system.

If you have a question or concern please feel free to contact us at anytime.  We are committed to making your ANGEL experience a good one!

Enrollment

Schools that are in the Southern Union Conference are a part of ANGEL and have the benefit of ongoing service. Schools outside of the Southern Union Conference, termed NAD Schools, must apply for enrollment on a year to year basis. See our Forms page for the Enrollment Form. We need this form turned in to ANGEL by September 1.
